markus muench

composer for acoustic and electronic music

Markus Muench studied classical violin at the „Hochschule für Musik“ in Munich and Wuerzburg with Kolja Lessing, Nora Chastain and Conrad von der Goltz, as well as music and radio journalism at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe.

As a live and studio musician (classical and improvised) he played in many different formations such as the Ensemble Modern Orchestra (Frankfurt), Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Munich Instant Orchestra, 48nord (Munich), Ensemble Resonanz (Hamburg), Coldcut (London) and many others.

Since 2002, Markus Muench is a board member of the Munich composers collective „aDevantgarde“. On the Paris label „Trace“ two compositions appeared on various compilation CDs. Markus Muench received the Munich Music Scholarship in 2007, and was winner of the Bavarian Radio Competition „Stimmbänder.Bandstimmen“ in 2011/12. In 2017 the „Ryuichi Sakamoto | async – Sound Installation Competition“ in Tokyo selected his work field_“ as a honorable mention followed by a 5.1 surround sound installation  (Dec- March, 2018) in the InterCommunication Center, Tokyo.

In his electro-acoustic compositions of recent years Markus Muench tries to cut sound and time levels into microscopic particles. For him this process opens up a new explorable sound universe, that can be original, innovative and audible at the same place.

Previously he composed works for the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the ensemble Nikel, the ensemble „piano possible“, the violist Klaus Peter Werani as well as for festivals such as the aDevantgarde festival, the Klangspuren Festival Schwaz Tyrol, the Digital Analog Festival, the „t-u-b-e“ sound gallery, MGnM and for Central German Radio and Bavarian Radio.

Bisher entstanden u.a.
